When most people think of Paul Cezanne, they think of iiwords genius and painting. For these two words he is consider byfar to be the Father of modern painting. Cezanne was born inAix-en-Provence in 1839. He was to die in the same town in 1906.His manner and fine art work was greatly influenced by this small townin France.He was the son of a shrewd business man, Louis-AugusteCezanne. As a boy growing up in Aix, Cezanne loved to study Grecianand Latin literature. At the age of thirteen, Paul met Emile Zolaat the College Bourbon. The friendship was in truth important forboth of the young men and lasted until the publication of Zolasnovel LOeuvre in 1886, in which the writer portrays anunsuccessful mechanic whose character based upon Paul. deeply hurt,Cezanne broke forever with his longtime friend. At school, theboys were nearly inseparable. Both were concerned in writing andliterature. Emile and Paul would write letters and rhymed meterto each other for the next decade or so in which they expressedtheir most intimate feelings and emotions together withinformation about their perfunctory biography. Pauls father disapprovedof Zola and his family especially after Emiles father had died.In February 1858 Zola moved to genus Paris together with hismother. Which made Paul want to go to Paris to conglutination up withEmile. When in 1861 he finally obtained his fathers permissionto study art in Paris, Cezannes first attempt to settle downthere failed. disappoint with the art world, he returned tohis family after only six months and entered his fathers bank asa clerk. The following year he went to Paris again, and this timehe stayed. During this years he lead a rather frugal life due tohis fathers meager allowance. Every year he submitted canvasesto the artists Salons, but was regularly rejected. Cezanne didhis first introduce with a group named the "Society of Painters,Draftsman, Sculptors, and Engravers" comprised of Pierre-AugusteRenoir, Claude Mone t, Alfred Sisley, Pissarro and Cezannehimself. The groups first bespeak was in April in 1874, theyreceived bad revise. Cezanne did one more show with that group,third for the group, in 1877. That show went better than thefirst one. "Unlike his artist friends, he generally avoided depictionsof modern life and instead painted landscapes and still-lives ofmore classical conception"(Lallemand 10). Cezanne had manydifferent characteristics of his work enigmatic quality, the suppose of someone who were essentially a sculptor, no seasonalvariance in his landscapes.
